Here's a sampling:

New Howard County Maryland Communities from Dorsey Family Homes, a Howard County Homebuilder

I know several Dorsey homeowners who are all quite happy with their new homes. I'm pretty sure most of them paid $600K or below.

The schools in Howard County are top notch as well.
Checking Zillow, there is not much single family home inventory in Fulton. Two homes < $600. Most of the MapleLawn townhomes are in the 400-500K+ range

Look in Laurel, Howard County....right next door to Fulton. Try 20723 zip code.

We just went through this and ended up in Calvert. (Way, way more bang for the buck)

Calvert would be great (tons better than Howard) for commute to Bolling. It's a straight shot down Rt 4 and the Suitland Parkway - - tons of military folks in Calvert.

Schools are fabulous.

Your observations on lack of community/shopping are spot on. You will spend a lot of time driving to Annapolis to shop and eat. Calvert is pretty soul-less. Yes, it's quiet and safe, but is a "bedroom" community in every sense.

We have fun farmers market on Friday nights.

Do Not even think about Bowie or California - - terrible advice.

I disagree. There are PLENTY of places in Calvert Co to eat, from just about every national chain to locally owned.

What kind of shopping are you looking for?

Many use the internet today anyway.

Kidding me, there's hardly anything locally owned to eat out at in Calvert. Calvert's schools are a total joke and don't believe that they are the best in the state since thats only a sense of self entitlement to cover up that most of the teachers don't care and end up on strike or the fact that theres nothing to do for younger residents they become absorbed into fakeness and do stupid things so its pretty hard to be yourself in Calvert or Southern Maryland.

Maplelawn development/town center is looking better every week.
