Affluent Montgomery County has pockets of poverty, mostly in the east - The Washington Post

Economic growth at its finest. Thanks to the liberal/progressive county council for their anti-business, anti-growth and absurd housing policies.

Should we start forcing rich people to stop living in Bethesda, Potomac and Chevy Chase?

As I have mentioned many times on this forum, Montgomery County has seen its peak, and is now on the downhill slide. I blame it 100% on apathy and the general notion that rich people will always insulate the county from economic downturn. County leaders (apparently) never imagined their de facto Sanctuary City policies would result in thousands of poverty stricken, paid-under-the-table, English As A Second Language fiefdom of takers. The result? The County is now being dragged, head-first, down the dirty, rotten road of supporting leaches.

When taxpayer dollars are diverted to pay for programs to support illegal immigrants, children of legitimate citizens and taxpayers suffer.

Montgomery County is on the downhill slide and it will NEVER return to its glory days.

What a thoughtful, well-reasoned comment.

Never is too big of a word for that.

Silver Spring is probably this biggest socioeconomic CDP in MoCo. You have the upper middle class, middle and lower class in the town. I can see how that article can have some truth.

the 270 corridor has been booming so of course it will have affluence.

Only thing in eastern MoCo that has affluence or upper middle is Burtonsville. And they have development issues.

Not to mention the whole MPDU program wasn't a good idea.glad PG county doesn't have that

I notice no one came in here to defend Montgomery County. Usually there are die-hards that simply refuse to see the light. Perhaps they have learned not to be a cheerleader for a slowly sinking ship. If so, then that would be considered "progress."

Not sure where you came up with this statement. If anything, the I-270 corridor has become less affluent, driven mostly by the invasion of legal and illegal immigrants who can't afford to live in this area but insist on doing so. Look at the graphic. That's not "affluence" along I-270....that's "poverty."

Why? I'm not educated enough on the issue to have a policy position on it, but I'm just wondering what your take is.

I think you meant Brookeville. Burtonsville is known for section 8 housing. I understand the County places a lot of it along the Route 29 corridor.

Also, PG County doesn't need an MPDU program. It already has enough low priced homes for sale.
