I drove through Silver Spring just yesterday. It truly has changed. Funny, gentrification now is occurring also in Georgia Avenue neighborhoods.
Where you in DTSS (the town center part) or downtown Silver Spring (lowercase "d" for the original downtown)?

If one has a lot of money then Silver Spring (I assume downtown) is for you. The parking cost alone would scare most people away. The rentals are too damn high.

Rockville has Moms Organic Market, Whole Foods, Fresh Market, Trader Joe's, and Harris Teeter. I considered that as well.
I agree Rockville is pretty good. And by the way, you can find just about every kind of ethnic restaurant there is in Rockville, Wheaton and Silver Spring (all areas).

Come to the National Golf Course or the new developments by the Harbor in PG and show me where the ghetto is!

There aren't any parts of College Park that are actually ghetto, but it ain't all rosy- gangs congregate in the parks at night.

Yes, that too.

But I'm extremely disappointed my favorite restaurant, The India Grill, changed their name and is now under new ownership.

No more food bar and the new menu didn't look as good. It was also very, very expensive. I looked and walked back out.

Yes, I am kind of in agreement with you. Bethesda downtown has a true urban feel, but once you get out of it...yeah, you are right in 'the whole city sense', but not right when it comes to downtowns.

It's more rough around the edges on average than MoCo and yes there is more crime, but it's not all bad. It's a socioeconomically and racially/culturally diverse county with the most Metro stations in the suburban counties, one of the cheapest COL (reasons good and bad), and we're pretty humble by DC area standards. There are a few spots in Silver Spring you'll need to be exercise some vigilance but overall, SS seems like a pretty safe place overall.
Yes, I agree with you. This is just a sterotype that people from rich parts of MOCO like to call these kind of gritty areas.
