Situate yourself as close to a Metro station as possible (probably Green Line) to lessen the blow of the Arlington commute. The commute from MD suburbs of DC to Baltimore isn't a light commute at all, but it's still pretty common. There's also MARC if the job is in Downtown Baltimore.
People do all kinds of crazy stuff. Theres people coming in from WV and places in Delaware that are more in the Philly metro than anything else. That doesn’t mean they are “fine”. Many times they either move or quit after a while of that.

Everyone has their own threshold here, but at least lets be honest and say hey this will be an hour plus all the time and with some frequency closer to 2 and sometimes more.

My Father drove from Northern Baltimore County to New York, Manhattan, and stayed there 3 days a week, and was in his early 60's. He had retired, had a great pension, but still did this for 3 more years. They kept promising a Baltimore location but it never came though.
He just made it out of New York when there was that massive power outage. Or he would have been stuck on the GW Bridge. I think he's nuts, but money makes people that way.

My point is that Greenbelt to Arlington or Baltimore in either direction is small potatoes compared to those ridiculous commutes. But they each should be prepared for an hour commute minimum.

Its not the worst commute, but all I said was people need to understand the realities of commuting ie you cant assume best case scenarios to be the rule and base your decisions on them. All too often people will give commute estimates based on pre rush hour start times and assuming no disruptions.
