My husband and I are looking to buy a home in the MD suburbs this fall. Our max budget is about $600k. We would love something 30-45 minutes from downtown (metro access would be a plus), at least somewhat walkable, good restaurants, and access to community amenities like parks, walking trails, public libraries, pools, rec centers, etc. I love some of the older homes with more wooded lots I’ve seen in Mt. Rainier but would love to get peoples thoughts on the area. We’re also looking at Brentwood, Riverdale, College Park, Takoma Park (mostly out of our budget though), and Four Corners/Forest Glen areas in Silver Spring. We’ve driven around almost all these areas but it’s hard to get a real feel for them. Any info you can provide would be helpful!

I already live in Riverdale Park, but if I was looking right now to buy into this area, I'd be looking at Riverdale Park, Hyattsville, College Park, University Park...Also Greenbelt and Berwyn Heights but I think you lose some of the walkability. As far as some things to do to get some level of feel for the area...check out Vigilante Coffee....check out the Riverdale Park Town Center during the Farmer's Market every Thursday evening, the town center market beer garden is usually bustling that evening...walk or bike on the trolley trail and/or the NE tributary branch of the Anacostia river trail...the pandemic has really thrown a wrench in the larger events like Hyattsville Arts Festival. I lived in the area for 11 years and I still find new little gems to enjoy. Hope that helps.
