As outlined in County Bill CB-029-2022, Prince George’s County will provide up to a 20% credit of the County portion of the property tax bill, inclusive of any Homeowners and Homestead Credit (total max of 20%), for up to 5 years to qualified homeowners.

To be eligible for this credit the applicant must meet the following criteria as of June 30, 2023, to receive the credit for Fiscal Year 2024, which is tax billing period July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024:
  1. At least one homeowner is age 65 and over; AND
  2. The same homeowner has resided at the property for which the credit is sought for at least the previous 10 fiscal years; AND
  3. The assessed value of the property does not exceed $500,000; AND
  4. The application is received by October 1, 2023.

Wondering how many people will qualify? It’s a nice gesture but as a minimum you must be 65, bought and lived in the house since you were 55, and the assessed value must be under 500k.

No matter though, this will help a few seniors out, saving them 20% of the county part of their tax bill.

It's tied into a newish state law. For Calvert the household income can't be above $60,000. There aren't the residency length requirements as long as it's owner occupied. I don't remember the assessed value number.

It’s all relative though. Differences in COL between states. In Maryland, 60k for a household income isn’t that high and doesn’t get you that much in many places. It could also be due to Maryland being a more liberal state and deciding to raise the bar for the means testing.
