Been in DC a fairly long time but have yet to find a "church home" to my liking. OK, I haven't been looking that hard, but I am still holding hope out that I might find my kind of christian church...thoughtful, meditative, economically diverse, small enough that the ministers know me, large enough to have resources to do some kind of outreach. And one where the pastor doesn't have hold a cult of personality over the congregation. Do you go to church in DC? VA? MD? Where? Why?

Alfred Street Baptist Church..
It was the closest thing I could find in the area to a Southern Baptist Church, I really like the pastor and it has a good balance on traditional/new school.
I go to His Church International Christian Church in Springfield VA. It has been a wonderful experience so far. Very diverse church of many different cultures and backgrounds. A lot of children. A lot of ministries, including community outreaches where we go around surrounding parts of NoVA like the local fire station, homeless shelters, elderly housing, and even the Mall. A lot of our outreach involves serving the community and telling people about Jesus. Our pastor is wonderful. He is a true man of God. There are no gimmicks, no people acting out, shouting just to be shouting, or anything like that, just the true unadulterated word of God. Love it.
Check out Fair Oaks Church in Fair Oaks...its on West Ox Street. It is a medium size church and has a vibrant music worship and great teaching. Just thought I'd point this out.
