Um, my wife works in the school system and says it is horrible. The bureaucracy, the nepotism, and favoritism are only out done by the clickish attitude that is in the staff. And that is just in the middle school. She worked full time at J.O. Wilson and she said it wasn't that bad. It was a little rough but nothing she couldn't handle. That is one of the best title 1 schools in DC. Then she went to work part time at Malcolm X elementary. Um yeah, that place is a straight up insane asylum. Kids are fighting everyday like grown folks. The stories she tells me everyday. Good God. I know nothing of the middle schools or high schools but there is a day and night difference between J.O and Malcolm X.

yikes.. My gf was thinking of doing the DC teacher program cause she wanted to teach elementary students. She knew DCPS was a little rough but thought elementary would not be as unruly as middle/high school. So I'm guessing this is not always the case?

Depends on your definition of rough. My wife says the kids in these schools, particuraly Malcolm X, are unlike any title 1 schools she has ever worked at.
I do not know how it goes down in middle school or high school in dc but in that elementary school the kids are fighting everyday.
