My husband and I are finally making the move to DMV but we are in a tough situation trying to figure out where to live. I'll be working all the way in Severna Park and he'll be working in Sterling VA. They seem to be pretty far apart. What would be good place to live where we could both get to work? Is there sort of a middle or at least someplace that won't be to terrible for either of us? Also we're a young couple (23 and 24) with no kids so schools aren't important to us we just want to be close enough to stores, food, etc.
Uh... One of you needs to find a new job ? ... There are no good options for this. How much of a commute can you tolerate? If you live near your job, his will be something like 2.5 hours each way. Maybe more. I'm not sure what traffic is like in your work area, but it's pretty awful all over DC.
Silver spring might be a compromise, maybe 60 to 75 minutes for you and an hour and a half each way or so for him? I'm not sure, but ballpark that's what I'd guess. Perhaps someone else can make a better estimate.
You also gave no budget, which is probably the most limiting factor....

yea one of us switching jobs is not really an option right now. We dont wanna go to0 much past an hour and a half commute. I was even thinking maybe Arlington or Alexandria wouldn't be to terrible since my husband normally has to leave early enough to be at work by 7

Yea, not a bad idea on Arlington. Alexandria is too far... If he has to be at work by 7, that will help quite a bit. What's the budget?

What if we lived really close to his job, like in Sterling or Reston.... somewhere in that area. Would I be doing a reverse commute and looking at maybe 90 minutes?

There is no such thing as a reverse commute in 495. (AKA there's traffic on both directions of the spur) Either you get stuck in traffic going towards Tyson's or you get stuck in traffic going towards Baltimore. It usually gets clogged up to Laurel, then opens up until you get around Glen Burnie.
If you really insist on this, then you would have to live around 270. Gaithersburg, Kensington, Wheaton, etc. Living in Arlington really makes no sense. You either live near 66 or 395, which both get clogged. Your husband gets a better commute, but just slightly. If you need it this way, I would say look within Montgomery County.
