Maybe it's just me but I wouldn't have announced a date if it was 4 years away.

Well they didn't announce an exact date. The building it's in will take two plus years to build and will start construction this winter 2014. The building will be done sometime in 2016 and then Whole Foods can't begin their buildout till 2016 putting the opening in 2017.

Right near the new Harris Teeter? That's strange...seems like half of all new big developments in DC at the moment are being anchored by grocery stores.

I think any established neighborhood needs a supermarket as an anchor. Doesn't make sense to live there otherwise.

It's nice to see they are finally putting in more accessible quality grocery stores to the underserved in DC....

I know someone that lived there 3 years ago and this statement is absolutely true.

That I agree with, but there seems to be a lot going up right around each other. Is there demand for both a Harris Teeter and a Whole Foods within a couple of blocks of each other? Navy Yard of all places needs retail diversity.

The arrival of Whole Foods - a.k.a the final stage in the self-actualization of a gentrifying neighborhood. Pretty amazing to see how far Near SE/SW has come in 10 years.
