Downtown Bethesda, Maryland fits your age demographic. It’s safe, clean, and very walkable to everything. High concentration of restaurants and cafes. Rent tends to be on the high side, as are incomes in the area. Perhaps not as diverse though.

Bethesda is blah in my opinion. It feels so removed from DC. I agree with you though with what you said. I worked in DC for a few years and its an ok place. It just seems cold and boring to me (the people). DC is so much more fun.

What is a lady of color? Black, Asian, Hispanic?

We've become so politically correct we're denying our heritage.

Take a look at listings in McLean Gardens. It's a safe neighborhood near bus stops, shopping & dining. Units for sale or rent are often lofts so you may find something there without much trouble. There's a range of ages but most are past college age. There's a new Wegman's going up right up the block too. There are parking spaces for rent but it's expensive. You can usually find street parking in the neighborhood and a city parking pass is way cheaper.
