A little background: We are a homeschooling, work from home family buying 5 acres (need horse pasture) and a modest home. We are far (really far)from wealthy, but still want to live in a nice community without any hassles. Yes, I AM looking for the perfect place We are trying to do our research and of course, we have to move where we can afford to live within our means- and it looks like we can find a place in three areas: Camano Island, Sedro and Arlington.

I had actually crossed Camano Island off the list at one point because I read a lot of very negative things about the noise- then I read that it wasnt on Camano, just Whidbey... so yes my head is spinning just a bit now. I dont htink I could be really relaxed with loud constant noise. Im sort of better off in the quiet country, watching the water with a cup of coffee.

We have lived in our current house for 20 years and are only moving becasue of the kind of "people" that have taken over where we live now. (We were flooded with people from out of state who have insane ideas on how to be a decent person. All of our open land was bought up and giant houses and giant ego's are now in place. YACK!)

Just trying to paint a picture so someone might be able to understand what it is we are looking for. We will be good neighbors. We promise!

Any advice, warnings, info would be appreciated!

Camano is higher priced than the other two. Neither Arlington nor Sedro-Woolley is near the water, but of the two I'd prefer the latter as it's close to the mountains via the beautiful north cascades highway, and also near a river. Arlington has become a bedroom community for Everett workers escaping the crime there and in Marysville.

You might add La Conner to the list, it's close to water and a beautiful area with quaint town. You can find a few nice homes with 5-20 acres for about $500-600,000 which is higher but may be worth it for you.

Be advised. Much of that property in or near La Conner is on the reservation, so buying a home there can be problematic.

Bought a house!! WOO HOO!
Thanks to all who have helped me over the past months on various threads. Hopefully one day I will know "STUFF" and can help someone else.

I do solomnly swear to be a good, quiet, thoughtful, smiling, relaxed, neighbor.

Congratulations! Hopefully you bought on Camano? Judging from your other thread it looks like that's the case. Camano is definitely the nicest of the three.
