Whidbey Island Questions (schools, living, move)

My family and I are seriously considering a move from Southern California to Whidbey this summer. We are looking more at South Whidbey, but could use some honest information about weather and schools. It seems there are varying opinions about weather - everything from grey all the time with constant drizzle to great climate. We have children that would possibly attend Whidbey Island Waldorf School. Any feedback about the school, honest input about the weather and anything else about living on the island is much appreciated. Thanks!

Keep in mind that summer is not representative of what the rest of the year is like. When you get here it will likely be sunny as it is most of summer and in the 70s.
Whidbey Island is in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains so it doesn't get a lot of precipitation especially on the central part of the island which gets around 25 in. per year. The southern part gets a bit more but not a lot.
The majority of precipitation in all of western Washington falls in the 4 months between Nov. 1st and March 1st, but it is mostly cloudy the other months, the exception being July, August and early September.
