The number of rainy days, the duration, the number of gloomy days and when they occur would be a matter of fact, shouldn't it?

I'm interested in Edmonds, but some people say there are 9 months of rain and gloom.

PLEASE...someone clarify!
There are plenty of places that statistically get more rainfall per year, but they also get more sunshine and warm weather. Study Reveals Top 10 Wettest U.S. Cities The problem with Western WA is the perpetual grey cloudy skys. I personally would rather it would rain and clear off and be warm again as it does down south.

That is an example of an exaggeration. Summers see sunshine 56-65% of the time. Winter is between 20% in December and 48% in March. For comparison, NYC's sunniest month is August with 63% of sunshine and fewer daylight hours.

I would have guessed NYC would be higher but I guess it just feels like it since it's always hot and humid in the summers there regardless of whether it's raining or overcast.

As others have said it all depends on you...

Certainly there is no lack of people thriving in the PNW.

We have good friends... one born and raised in the SF Bay Area and the other Edmonds Washington.

They were both widows when they met 12 years ago and married... she could never quite get use to Washington winters so they kept both homes and go back and forth... Winter is generally all California... she does really enjoy summers in Washington.

I happen to love Western Washington for many reasons... where I am it is green and clean and love the mingling of mountains and the sound...

Meet lots of transplants... some from 40 or 50 years ago... some were stationed in Washington and never left.

I do find many of my Washington friends schedule a Sun trip each January which seems to fill the need quite well... no shortage of planes heading for sunny locations from Sea Tac

Thanks everyone for all the info and opinions so far. There's been an incredible amount of helpful input here.

Of all the things that were said, I have to say the story about mosquitoes has just about completely convinced me against going there, even with all the positive things that I've read. The thought of my dog being covered to that extent with them is horrible!

I can't stand seeing ONE!

Of course, I would never leave my dog outside in those conditions....but still, the fact that there are so many from the sound of it....I could not deal with that.

This is about as bug free as the US gets. Exceptions if you buy a house next to a wetland or hiking near a lake in peak season but even then nowhere near the amount we saw in the midwest.

Nope. The desert states have the fewest mosquitoes.
