I want to move to Washington state.... Can anyone recommend where to live, low crime, low drug, decent jobs, not too expensive real estate. I'm 51 and looking to relocate from California. My 26 year old son will be coming with me. I'm looking to move around Dec of this year 2018 or Jan 2019.

There is probably a place somewhere in Washington that has an acceptable balance of all of those. Challenge will be to figure out where that is. Can you give a few more clues about what would appeal to you, about the house, terrain, price, lot size, nearby ammenities... rural, town, condo, view, acreage in the country? Just a little more info could help narrow us down a bit.

Yes, define "not too expensive real estate".

What do you consider inexpensive, and what kind of jobs? Low crime, low drugs, and jobs mean everyone wants to live there, so it’s not going to be inexpensive. Here for example is very low crime, in fact I called the police to report finding several hundred unlit firecrackers in the street after the 4th of July and they arrived in about 3 minutes. We are within 20 miles of all major area tech and professional employers. The median priced home is over $900,000. Cut the prices in half, and there are still areas with fairly low crime, but the jobs are not paying as much, trucking, warehousing and retail.

That was practically my point.

The Spokane area might be a better choice.

Why do you think that? Richland is conservative, has a low tax burden, very very low crime rate, good schools, low homeless and illegal aliens and a high average pay for jobs.....really better than Spokane economically with much lower crime and higher paying jobs. I can agree that Spokane is a prettier area and larger city but that's about the only advantages it has in comparing it to Richland.

Spokane has 54 murders in the last 5 years and a crime rate more than double the national average and an average median income of $45,676. Richland meanwhile has had 4 murders in 5 years and has an average crime rate of about half the national average and a median income of $71,387 (data in this paragraph is from the City Data sites for the 3 respective cities)
