Excellent information. I feel that we will be pretty well prepared by the time we arrive. Hoping that our rental car will be adequate. At the time that I arranged the car rental, I had not taken the current weather conditions into consideration. May have to upgrade to an all wheel drive vehicle.

Dress for cold (sub-freezing) and possible lowland snow. Keep an eye on Cliff Mass' Weather Blog: https://cliffmass.blogspot.com/.

You might want to avoid any hikes at elevation. On the other hand, if you get that AWD, you could visit https://www.mtbaker.us/snow-report.

If your staying in the lowlands and on well traveled roads, I don't know how much of an issue it will really be as we don't have a ton of snow in the forecast. That said though, Subaru's AWD is the magic ticket for whatever reason if your rental place offers any.
The temperature in the forecast is absolutely bombing. Depending upon where you look, Tuesday is showing lows between 6-11 degrees!

rkcarguy, given your moniker, do you sell Subarus? Just own one? I'm strongly considering a Subaru, although a used one, as the new models are pricey.

Wow... yes, we both drive Subaru Outback’s . Always perfect in any weather condition. Well, we are bringing lots of Gore-Tex and heavy winter clothing… Hopefully Weather will permit one or two good hikes.

No I don't, I work in another field, but I have a Subaru and have owned two. During last winter we had a really bad ice storm in the NE county which dropped tons of trees and power lines and even broke off many power poles, and several trees dropped over my GF's families driveway trapping them in their home with no power. I drove out with a chain saw and went up their ice caked hilly driveway to cut the trees out of the way, and when I got out of the car I slipped and fell on the ice and had to crawl around on my knees to safely deal with each tree. Yet when I got back in the car to move to the next downed tree it made it up the hill no problem. No studded tires no chains just the tires on the car that came with it. Subaru's hold their value incredibly well, so I've always bought new and then kept them for 4-5 years. The depreciation is only around $1,000/year or less if you get a good deal and take good care of your car.

Good to know. Our next car will very likely be a Subaru.

I have an Impreza HB and it's a great do it all car. Fold down the back seats and there is a large cargo space, I strap 8' and 10' lumber to the roof rack on occasion (150# limit), average 28mpg and about 33 highway, and its great in snow and ice provided ground clearance isn't exceeded by snow depth.

Just one more question… Any recommendations for where to stay our last night? We would like to be pretty close to the airport or within a reasonable drive, as we have a 1015 flight in the morning. Would Edmonds be a good choice? Didn’t want to deal with a lot of traffic in the morning. Thanks.
