I knew someone who managed a Tribal Store...very bad experience for them. They were forced to hire from the reservation (which is right), but not able to let staff go when they were unreliable (wrong). The employees didn't have work ethic as long as they knew they were tribal protected.

I stumbled upon this site, and I saw some threads on the the topic I needed. So, I am hoping that some of you guys who live in the Forks area, could help me and answer some of my questions....

1. What are the typical jobs and how much to they usually pay?

2. Are the houses expensive?

3. Are the people nice?

4. Is there alot of crime?

5. How about fashion?

I live in Virginia (the northern area) and moving across the US is going to be a huge climate change, im sure.
So any people who can help me?
!!!!CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! You will be moving to an area that has the heavist rainfall in the 'NATION'.
So, on with your questions: (1) Jobs, What jobs? (2) Lots of houses available, most people want out so houses should be cheap. (3) People are about as nice as they are anywhere else. (4) Very little crime. (5) Fashion: raincoats, Levi's and logger boots.

Forks is a very miserable place. The author of Twilight never even been to the sad, pathetic, wet place when she wrote the book. Most of the shots in the first movie were filmed closer to civilization, in Oregon near Portland. Check out St. Helens, Oregon instead. You are making a massive mistake if you actually move to pathetic, depressed, cold, and rainy Forks.

Move to Forks? I was incredulous enough to read all the posts. Then ROFLMAO. Forks is the place people are glad to be from. The ONLY reason to base yourself in Forks is because you are an outdoors person extraordaire. Hunt, fish, shoot, hike, dive, boat, get lost in the devils club and vine maples because you missed the ribbon marking the main path and followed an elk trail that petered out into….nothing. And you have to drive 15 miles to do that. I spent a number of years of my well spent youth in Quinault and everyone drove the extra 15 miles to get to Aberdeen unless they were picking up hydraulic parts in Forks. Nobody has mentioned that there is an undercurrent of racism and cracker mentality that pervades the logging communities on the Peninsula. When TEOTWAWKI happens, they all look forward to dropping a few trees across Hwy 101 and then heading to the hills to shoot elk unhindered. Yahoo! No horns and screw the limit! We’ll all eat off the beach. All we need is just you, me, and a clear field of fire. There is nothing to rent in Forks because all rentals are spoken for, nobody can afford to buy a house. Got a new engine for the boat though, from some guy off the rez... As in all places, there is a small nugget of school administrators, merchants or company officials who make a good living. Forks is one of those places where most people are almost making a living, permanently. Loggers are transients, if this doesn’t work out it’s off to Alaska or Idaho. This may sound a bit harsh, and I know there are good folks in Forks, but if you haven’t been there long enough to be trusted to poach some “side hill salmon” and split it with your neighbors don’t expect an open community. “The only people I trust are me and you, and I ain’t so sure about you”. Look before you leap.

Old patch I agree, there is nothing against those who live in Forks but these people that consider uprooting their families to move across the country without ever having seen the place are frightening. There are many threads where they talk about it and I wonder what happens to them. Lake Quinault is where you go to camp. Forks is where you drive right through, maybe stop for gas. Although I wonder if some enterprising locals have started to sell trinkets like Snoqualmie sold cherry pie during the Twin Peaks era.

I live 15 miles south of Forks. In the summer when I need to go to town I avoid the corner where the only traffic light is because of the Twilight stores, BTW since it is winter the stores appear to be empty day after day week after week until a couple of idiots from somewhere else come to see the 'Twilight' town. I hate Twilight and I hate Stephanie Meyers for putting Forks on the world map. I have watched small buildings change hands and business several times. If you try to open a small business you might make it one year before you have to shut down. There is only one grocery store in town - prices are high - no competition. The only other small produce store just shut their doors, I think they might have been open 3 years. There are no other towns - I mean nothing for 70 miles to the NE Port Angeles or close to 100 miles south, Aberdeen to do any type of shopping. Oh and your choice of physicians, specialist, dentist, eye doctors, are scarce. I spent 8 and half hours driving to PA the other day just to see a specialist and do some shopping in Sequim at large retail stores. We just get used to knowing a shopping trip to PA or Aberdeen is going to take a full day. Be prepared to pay extra for everything - remember everything gets trucked in so you are paying high prices for gas. Rain starts in October and does not stop until May - last summer came in August for about 6 weeks. Now that Twilight is around, I make sure when I tell people where I live I say my mailing address is Forks, I do not live there. I love Forks, without Twilight, love the town for being small and hate to think of it growing larger - yeah I am one that wants everyone to go away. BTW I grew up in Lake Stevens WA and my husband's family homesteaded by Freshwater Bay. I came here to be reclusive. Oh and if you come to visit you will stick out like a sore thumb at the store, no matter how hard you try to blend in. Crime - my favorite of all times police blotter was someone was chasing someone else with a chain saw; it was not apparent if the chainsaw was running or not. Sorry to compose a book - I have never posted before and just found this page. ha, watch for my sequel.

Oh and your choice of physicians, specialist, dentist (I think there are now 3), eye doctors (1), chiropractor (1) and he doesn't live here. Also only 1 veternarian - be ready to drive to PA 70 miles away with a sick animal that needs specialty care or when this vet is out of town.

FASHION = sturdy sandals with socks in the summer (YES, they wear sandals with wool socks here), hiking boots with same socks in winter...

This is an obvious sign you are from out of town not a local.

Wow, oilcity, thanks, I knew how small it was but you don't think about what that means in every day living. I wouldn't last a week.

Plus you need to know this is a hunting town. Men, women, kids hunt down and kill 'bambi' and legal bull elk. Unless the local indians have shot them all because they don't want any white men to get any. You can drive through town in the fall - from Sept to mid December and see trucks with rifles in them, guys dressed up in cami and painted faces for the hunt. If you are against hunting and living off the land you will hate it. Not trying to be negative on all of this but this is reality. There is no movie theator - there was one but it hasn't been opened for too many years to guess and last year it burned down. You have to be like me and want to be reclusive and you will love it - but if you are coming here to enjoy because it is a small town you will go stir crazy. Look at the map - we are very far north. In the winter it gets light around 7 am and pitch dark at 4:30 pm.
