Consider La Conner, WA; small, on the salt water, really artsy, no ferry, in the Skagit River delta.

old post, but for 'next reader'...
I love the climate there, and love the green and the water. Like to walk trails, and enjoy nature. Any suggestions?
I don't need a job....but need affordable.

Quite 'Puget Sound' specific advice above (i.e. NOT so affordable). Hood Canal / and Aberdeen area is about as 'affordable' as you can get to be on / near water (north of Olympia and west of Cascades). Sheldon is also on the least expensive side (for same reasons as Longview (See below)

Plenty of water, green, recreation, and affordability on the lower Columbia River in SW WA. Don't need a job? Cathlamet, WA (and west) used to be very inexpensive. Longview, WA is also inexpensive (for a reason), but high drug / petty crime culture. Kelso, Kalama very near, but less troublesome (and more expensive). Woodland starts getting too close to JOBS (Portland and Vancouver) so prices increase, especially south of Lewis River (Clark County / Vancouver, WA)
