5C at 3.15pm, cloudy, windy, starting to get gloomy. It was sunny for a while earlier on but it made no impact on the temperatures at all - today's high still the 5.9C at 2.30am.

Another one of your weird "highest temperatures are in the middle of the night". Our highs haven't been much colder than yours, and probably the same some days. Our lows, of course, have been much colder.
38°F here
29°F dew point
Overcast
We've sun for at least the last few days, and a small storm is coming tonight. Low was 26°F.

Yesterday was even more weird. A high of 11.6C at 2.30am again with wind and rain, stable around 7C during the morning despite the sun shining, down to 5C at 3pm in the showers, then up a bit after dark, and finally reaching the low of 4.4C at 9.30pm, and then up again. This month's high so far, the highest December temperature in a few years, was 12.7C at around 7pm last Thursday (another wet and windy evening). Half the maximum temperatures so far this month have happened during darkness, despite it a being relatively sunny month so far when higher temperatures during the day would make more sense.
