Since, it is under high pressure we aren't going to get very much snow, so to have a wintery feel i'd prefer a frost to stay and for that to happen we need Ice Days, the frost will just melt if it goes above 2c.
If the winds were stronger we would bear the worst of it in the east.
First ice day, but without any ice or snow. Colorado USED to be cold, but not consistently cold in the past 30 years or so.
The Front Range has a surprisingly mild climate at times as it is not uncommon at all for temperatures to push up into the 60s in December and January. The average high and low at the coldest time of the year (late Dec.) is around 42/12°, but the last few winters have been anything but normal. Things can be wildly and rapidly changing at this elevation and so close to the mountains. Last year we had over 62" of snow during the season, but not much really frigid air. In Jan. and Feb. of 2011 the temp dropped to -15°F. twice and was below zero F. during the day for a couple of days. This season we have had virtually no snow at all.
