The western edge of the European anticyclone is/was roughly over London area. We are to the south of it, so we get E winds, while you were northwest of it, with S-SW winds.

Btw yeah there is an inversion, we're almost 10°C warmer than NI at 850 hPa, but cooler at ground level:

I always wonder how Inversions set up, how do they set up? What decides that they set up? Its rare in Northern Ireland for us to be colder than the upper air, but in Continental places this occurs commonly.

You will not be colder than us on Saturday as snow is possible.

For the current situation, the positioning of the European anticyclone brings coolish continental air at the surface. The air rapidly reaches the dew point temperature due to calm nights, so fog forms and evolves into a stratus layer because of daytime ground heating. The latter, by effectively blocking sun rays, ensures that the surface doesn't get sufficient solar radiation to warm up to 850 hPa levels during the day. More or less.

I still don't get how it can be colder here when a Warm front came through your area which means that any fog that would've been present would've been displaced.

Well, I guess it was only the British Isles that got a front then.

Mentioning inversions, temperatures is 3c here with 99% humidity. I think the upper air is still a bit warmer, it has not fully cooled down yet.
