In reference to the Floridian aspect, I consider the concept of anything below 50 or 60 F being cold to be ludicrous.

I agree with your overall assessment, but the dominance of the mild lovers does not exist in my experience, seeing as I've seen a lot of people who would dislike a LA- or San Francisco-type climate. Most that I've seen would prefer something else. The dominance of mild lovers may exist among those you have seen, but I can only speak for myself and what I have seen.

I think in a more typical population, most people would fall in the middle of the chart, within a few points of 0,0. There would also be a big group of people who hate extreme cold and extreme heat, and be in a spot close to SophieLL (I can think of a friend who would match her position exactly). These extreme haters in my experience tend to dislike winter more than summer, and tend to go outside much less in the winter, but if they lived in a different climate, it would obviously be different.
I agree. The more I think about it, the more I realize I do enjoy the change of seasons. I tend to like summer the most, except for heat waves. I don't like extremes at either end. However, I tend to dislike the extreme cold waves more than heat waves. I picked pretty much a London winter for my preference. It is cold enough that you know it is winter, but not brutally so.

Living here in the Mid-Atlantic, you will frequently meet people that feel winter here is either too cold or not cold and snowy enough. Based on my own recollection, the warm winter lovers far outnumber the cold. Most of them never move, but some do. And it seems the Florida movers are much more common here. IMO, the lure of a warm winter is what fueled the growth of FL. Florida is not known for having an abundance of decent wage jobs, so I just don't think it was the economy driving the migration. I think it was the lure of a warm winter.

I dislike summer way more than winter, winter is actually my favourite time of the year and i do all kind of outdoors activities then like go running everyday, go camping, pic nic in the sun, etcétera! Plus, if im planning a trip i rather travel in the winter, too, its all way more beautiful and lovely (this year i traveled in the winter, to the north of the country -salta and jujuy- and it was beautiful. And in summer im staying in the city), while summer is not a moment of the year i like at all. While to most people is the other way, they travel and look forward to the summer to do their trips, i preffer to stay at home in the summer.
Im a 100% heat hater, not a cold lover like the real cold lovers we have in this forum, plus its true i dont enjoy extremes, but if i was forced to chose to live in an all year cold weather or in an all year hot weather, i wll be going to the cold place without hesitating.

my sunshine hours are 2500
rainfall 1000 mm

it would be something like:
sunshine -1
rain: +2

Sunshine: -9
Rainfall: -5

I'm really not sure how much rain I would like, so I just took a stab and thought 75 in per year would be good. I probably wouldn't mind much more though.

2,500 - 2,800 hrs sunshine and anywhere from 500-2,000mm of rain in tropical downbursts only. I don't really care about how much rain as long as it falls very heavily and briefly at a time and on no more than 130 days per year.

The sunshine scale seems about right, and for now I'll leave the scales the way they are, with most of the respondents being warmth-loving people so far.
The zero points seem a little high, although in the case of sunshine I think it does approximately match the mean sunshine hours for inhabited places when weighted by population (seems strange to me, though, as the zero point is far higher than anywhere in my country).

Put me down as rain +5, sun +5, although the rain depends on temps and rainfall seasonality (more rain preferred in hot climates or those with dry winters).

Great chart PM !

As for the ongoing debate regarding most people's preferences...having lived in several different cities I noticed that people's desires and tastes regarding climate change according to their current climate, i.e.

- In Nice, I would say that most people enjoy very mild weather; I hear most complaints in winter and in summer. I'd say that people are on average happiest around May (14-20°C)

- In Hong Kong, people tend to both highly dislike summer and highly dislike the cold snaps of winter (though not 'average' winter days which are mild) and seem to fully enjoy October to mid-December (15-28°C);

- In Paris/Lille, and Rozenn might confirm that or not, but from the time I spent there it seemed to me that people's favorite season is spring (5-20°C) while most do not enjoy the dull winter days or summer heatwaves.

- In Singapore, people usually don't talk much about the weather, especially locals, given that they were born in a absolutely seasonless climate. When they complain, most of the time it's about the humidity, not the heat. And I've heard many people complain in December about how cool it is on some days! (max temps of 26°C during "cold snaps").

so I think all of this (what people like on average, etc.) is highly dependent on which country you're talking about, etc.

lol, so true.

I will have to say that in Buenos Aires people normally complaint in summer and in winter. In summer everyone runs away (to other places in Argentina) cause they hate it cause is so hot. People who stays here complain, complain and complain. Kinda like me.

In winter, if temps get below 10 celsius people complaint like if we are in Siberia. Also, the news also make a fuzz about, i dont know....7 celsius. People in Buenos Aires is very exxagerted and like to complaint all the time (and seriously, winters in BA are NOTHING to complain about, they are rather beautiful and comfortable objectivly speaking) about everything, they also complain about the governemt, the people, etc. Its a cultural thing.

Foreigners that live here cant believe how exxagerted people in BA are about the cold. I mean people wear scarfs at 15 celsius, lol .

The mid seasons are usually enjoyed by everyone, cause temps are between 12-13/25-26

Given acceptable temperatures, I'm -1 rain, +2 sun.

Your chart does seem to lean a little to the rainy side. Perhaps dry-lovers deserve more of a say, as there is a big difference between a climate that experiences 150mm annually and one that experiences 10mm.
