187 hours to the 26th. Tracking above average so far for the month although rainfall totals well below par (could be the first month this year to be below average).

Without doing the analysis, suspect our mean day-to-day temperature maximum variance may be high though (including a low maximum of 18C which was apparently the coldest May max since May 1980).

Looking through the BOM records, Brisbane had maximums of exactly 18C in both May 2000 and 2002. I'm surprised it's even been that long, it never ceases to amaze me how immune to cold weather Brisbane is. Sometimes the maximum doesn't even go below 20C in May.

Looks like rainfall will end below average here as well with 28.4mm compared to an average of 35mm. That ends a nice streak of 5 months without below average rainfall.

Actually I stand corrected on my earlier assertion (never trust the media!).

Our maximum on Wed 22nd May of 18.0C was the coolest May maximum since the high of 17.8C on 29th May 2002.

That is one quality I enjoy about the maximums here are the small variance, both measured across the month and on a day-to-day basis. This is particularly true in the autumn/winter months

Assuming we get no more rain this month, we are still trending around 200mm more than average - Jan/Feb really kicked the year off in that regard!

142 hours to the 26th. Might make average by months end (210.7). Another below-average month rain-wise and temperature-wise looks likely too.

83 hours to the 7th. Three times November or January's total already.

I'll stay clear of Melbourne then.

It is not massively better up here. Have had a couple of good days this month but that us it. Total sunshine to the 7th is 31.2 hours or 4.5/day.

Next seven days look very poor with showers and rain so do not expect to come out of that with a higher average.

It has been fairly mild though with temps in low 20s, but sunshine is a bigger consideration for me.
