The sunshine is so above average right now that it's crazy. We're at slightly above 30 hours to the 6th (the average is less than 10 hours to the 6th), giving more than 5 hours of sunshine a day. The forecast calls for more sunny weather, so I won't be surprised if we got close to 100 hours until the end of the month (the average is 45).

80.2 hours to the 16th. Only one sunless day and another below 2 hours. Only 5 Decembers have exceeded this total since 1949 and we're only mid-month.
No British site has even got close to that many! The most I can see is St Helier, Jersey, with 47.4 hours as of exactly halfway through the month at midday today. Lerwick is last on 3.5 hours, whilst the mainland sites range from 7.9 hours at the dubiously-sited Bala in North Wales to 27.9 hours at Wattisham in East Anglia. The nearest available data to me is Church Fenton, which is on 16.6 hours.
What a great way to end a sunnier than average year.
Well, we are always exceptionally gloomy in November and December, so it doesn't bother me much.
