Rate the Climate vs Climate Battle Threads (hot, warm, temperature)

I guess I'm biased since I 'started' the trend of the latter...a long time ago now!

Anyway I find it more interesting to compare climates than rate climates, mainly because the responses will be so predictable, especially from the same old posters.

Which do you find more interesting to read/vote in?

I'm a climate battle man, always have been, always will be.

I try to answer the RTC's, but there is so many of the darn things I sometimes get dizzy, that could be the booze though.

I also find myself becoming Mr Predictable with the RTC's, something I swore I never would be. Now look at me - Mr C-

Battles are more interesting I suppose, but both themes are getting tired.

I agree, it seems they're taking over the board. It's like we've unleashed a monster. Maybe the mod should start limiting the number of those type of threads.

It's hard to choose for me, because I really like both methods. If I had to choose it would be "rate the climate", because I prefer rating a climate on its own merits rather than being restricted into a binary choice.

You could say the same for a lot of the climate battles; often there is a clear difference in temperature and thus the coldies will choose the cooler one and the hotties will choose the warmer one. It becomes more interesting when temperature isn't a factor and other aspects must be looked at.

As for your suggestion to restrict the number of such threads, I think that's a stupid idea. There are plenty of active topics that aren't related to climate ratings or battles. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean you should try to deprive the rest of us of these discussions.

I agree that the theme is more tired than it used to be, but that's mostly due to rehashing the same sort of material as well as oversaturation. If everyone followed my example, in that I try to find new, unusual material, and start these threads only if it would be of interest, then the theme wouldn't be tired.

Look at me. There would be some merit to calling me "Mr. F" .

It would, but the main reason I dislike those hot vs. cold comparisons is that they're boring, not because of any agenda the OP may have. The battle of my dream climate vs. Dxiweodwo's dream climate is an opposite example to Singapore vs. Vostok. Both of the climates were similar, but had differing characteristics that forced people to choose due to factors apart from hot vs. cold.

Comparing climates is easier for me as I sometimes struggle to pick a grade to rate a climate.

Though the Rate a Climate often bring climates to my attention that I would otherwise ignore or overlook. Comparing climates sometimes do that too though.

True. I've seen a number of real gems on here that I would probably never have heard of otherwise.

Not terribly interested in seeing more generic tropical or subarctic climates though.

Most people gave London a C on rate a climate, but when it's put up against another city it has lost every single time.

I'm surprised at how cold climates get as many votes as they do in climate battles as well.
