In my case, 2 out of 10.
Nothing good, save the last week, came out of the month at all
If it weren't for the last week which saw mainly cloudy and showery spells prevailing then a rating of 1/10 would have easily been applied.
Enough said as this month's statistics is far too depressing to put out

Great idea (the rating)!

My May had average max 22.1C and average min 11.0C. This is quite a bit hotter than average (well, at least the 1971-2000 averages, since there still isn't the 1981-2010 ones out!)

Extremes were a low of 3.5C and a high of 32.2C.
14.1C was the lowest high (which was on the first day of the month) and the highest low was 19.4C.

There were 44.4 mm of precipitation (all of it rain) but not many perceptibly rainy days, and a fair number of sunny days. I remember the hot days were also often quite dry with not too high dewpoints.

Because there were many great days of sunny and warm/hot weather, not too many humid days, and pleasant T-shirt weather much of the month I will give it 8 stars out of 10. I usually perceive May weather as very pleasant because it is the time of year that warms up to what I like, and is usually seen as the unofficial start of summer.

Because this year, it seemed summer arrives early and pleasant weather dominates, I give it a high rating.

Unofficial figures for Hampstead, north London:

Mean temperature: 13.6C (+1.0)
Mean maximum: 17.5C (+0.8)
Mean minimum: 9.5C (+1.2)
Highest temperature: 26.9C
Lowest temperature: 3.9C
Rainfall: 43.1mm (-27%) on 11 days**
Sunshine: 155 hours (-20%)

** I strongly suspect the rain gauge of underreading - in April it underread by roughly 40% compared to the official site.

Cool and very dull for the first 15-20 days, then a spell of hot weather with constant sunshine from the 23rd-28th inclusive. Halfway through the month the average Tmax was 3C below average so to get a positive anomaly at month end was quite impressive.

National figures:
Temperature: 12.0C (+0.3C)
Rainfall: 58.3mm (-11%)
Sunshine: 208.6 hours (+3%)

Considering the poor start it's pretty shocking the late warmth and sun were enough that the month came in warmer, drier and sunnier than average, if only slightly. We've had historically wet and dull months in the warm season in the past few years but I'm starting to wonder if a significantly cool month in the warm season is still possible - it's long overdue.

Vancouver International Airport

Average high: 16.1°C
Average low: 8.3°C
Average: 12.2°C
Highest high: 23.5°C on May 26th
Lowest high: 11.1°C on May 3rd
Highest low: 11.5°C on May 28th
Lowest low: 4.9°C on May 6th
Total precip: 42.8mm
Total precip days with more than a trace: 9 days
Most precip on one day: 12.8mm on May 21st
Total frosts: 0
Total snowfall: 0cm

Temperature wise it was pretty much bang on average but the precipitation amount was 37% below average. For Vancouver standards, I'd have to give it an 8/10 due to the lower than normal precipitation which I like.

We have just had our driest May on record! That's from 62 years of data at this site, so it's a pretty big deal. Certainly a blessing for me.

However, this was not accompanied, as one might expect, by above average sunshine. The first half of the month was very gloomy (note the seven days with less than an hour's sun), but the second half was much sunnier. This resulted in a sunshine total only just above average.

Temps were a little cooler than average, mainly due to cold nights. There were nine frosts in May, a number exceeded only thrice in 58 years of records.

Overall, I give this month an 8/10 due to the record dryness.

wow, marlaver! i love how complete your weather reports always are! Thanks!

So, it turns out May was, as i fully expected, WAY warmer than average! The average low was almost 3 celsius above average! Thats quite a lot and i gotta say....I fully noticed it! Cause, other than one or two days, we didnt have any COOL night at all!!! Most nights were above 15c, plenty of 20s too. Really really warm!
Plus, the average high 20.6! If you think about it, May was like a spring month: 13.6/20.6....and its an almost-winter month!!! 6th warmest may in history...im surprised it doesnt rank higher!!!

And it was also VERY humid! The numbers show that too! (average humidity 80% max average humidity 99%!!) Those days when the sun didnt show up for like ten days were super humid, warm and uncomfortable!!! The first part of May was nicer, sunny, not as warm, with some """cool"" nights, and they were like 2 or 3 days when temp was perfect.

But overall this May wasnt what i expected at all: not only it was super warm, but it was super humid and cloudy!
So, i rate it with a 5!

Giving that May is my favourite month, this one didnt gave me what i was expecting at all
