For me the hottest ever was on the shores of Lake Mead where I saw an unofficial 118 (~48) in 1959. In early August 2009, we were treated to another unofficial (but accurate) 116 (not quite 47) near the ruins of the Borax works in Death Valley.
The heat episode I remember most, though, was a four day stretch of 100+ temperatures during which we had a 102 (39) degree afternoon that was also accompanied by thick clouds and light rain. It sayed 100 plus for about 5 hours and during that time we got about a quarter inch (7 or so mm) of bathwater warm rain. Yecch.....Dewpoints never dropped below 86 (30) the entire afternoon; can't imagine what the heat indices were. This all went down in Corvallis, Oregon on July 22, 2006 and is about the last place I would have expected something like that to happen.

The hottest I've experienced and can remember was 44C here in Perth on Boxing Day 2007. There was a 46C temperature recorded in 1991 as well.

42°C in San Felipe (BC) in August 1971.
I've encountered a few times temperatures close to 40° C since then for very short periods , but that long lasting intense heat in the Baja desert remains for me unique.

I guess saunas don't count? Or cars without AC?

I really have no idea, haven't really been in hot inland locations very often during summer. I remember that it was hot in Greece, but the max stayed at some 38-39C. I'll answer that.

112°F (44.4°C) in New Jersey/New York City in 2010, it wasn't "officially" that warm (it was around 104) but that was the temperature in heavy traffic on the highway during the afternoon.

Officially: 105°F (40.6°C) in New York City, in 2011.

Heat Index: Upper 110's/Low 120's (47.2°C - 50.6°C) in Florida, Maryland, & New York City.

The hottest temperature I have experienced in my home town of Pueblo Colorado was unofficially 111 last summer. The hottest temperature I have ever been in was in Palm Springs where it was above 120.

I was told 105 F when I asked, don't know, didn't see any thermometer myself. It was around 1982.

I did find a website that had listed 91 F as the record high, but it didn't say the year:

Mexico City Record High 91 F in the months of May, June, November, December
