Oh geez, Dallol is like Phoenix in July, year round, with the added bonus of miserable levels of humidity haha

Tough choice. I pretty much hate snow and ice AND extreme heat, especially extremely humid extreme heat

If forced, I'd probably go with Esperanza, I guess.

How accurate are those humidity figures?

If those are correct, that would be like a furnace.

I have experienced a day in Palm Springs July where the weather forecasters said the humidity rarely got that high in the summer.

Base Esperanza. It's not even that cold there. Dallol on the other hand is beyond awful.

Base Esperanza easily. Yeah it's cold, but it's not THAT cold. We're not talking about Vostok Station here. Dallol on the other hand is unlivable for me. Lowest temperature ever 73 F?? That's something I'd want the average high to be, not the record low! So pretty much it's nearly 24/7 hot there. AND humid. Yeah, no thanks.

Base Esperanza for sure. Tourists actually visit and some families spend time there. I could also see some comfortable summer days, but clouds could be a problem. Winters aren't that bad either, at least average winters lows are above zero. Dallol is just hot and humid all year, it's average lows are above my record high minimum and I live in the Deep South! Since the information is only from 1960-1966, I'm sure the record low would be in the 60's, but the record high also in the 120's.

Dallol.

Esperanza is cold and cloudy, perpetual winter would be depressing.
Dallol is hot and sunny all year, I'd probably acclimate after some adjustment.

Dallol. Esperanza's extremely low sunshine hours and presumably strong winds coupled with consistently cold temperatures would be unbearable for me. I might actually choose it over Dallol if it were sunny and calm.

Two points: the Wikipedia data as usual is not quite correct. The mean temperature from data already posted on this forum was 94.3F (34.6C), and an article discussing a potash project, which I downloaded, says no humidity data was available. Humidity at a nearby location averaged under 50% in the hottest months, and was likely to be lower at Dallol.

I'd gladly pick the chill, cloud, and snow of Esperanza to the torrid conditions in Dallol. With proper clothing I'd actually be quite comfortable year-round in Esperanza, which is a lot more than I can say for Dallol. Esperanza also has the added advantage of having a winter, even if it is a perpetual winter.
