One unique feature of California is influence of the Pacific Ocean and the strong differences in climate from the immediate coast, a few miles away from the coast, and Central Valley

Eureka is probably the most "maritime" of all- Eureka, California - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Palm Springs is a desert climate but not as hot as Death Valley (which I thought was too extreme for this poll) Palm Springs, California - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Which would you rather live in?

Palm Springs for sure. I'll always choose a climate with scorching summers and warm winters over maritime crap with sub-20°C lows that are absolutely pathetic at that latitude (Fairbanks has highs 6°C warmer despite being 24° polewards!)

Palm Springs is fantastic from Oct to May, Eureka is a perpetual November/December in Nice. No thanks.

Btw, any idea why July has the lowest record high of any month there?

Palm Springs, it's dry heat so it would be comfortable. Eureka is cooler than the Scilly Isles.

I also do not like the maritime climate of the coast (I like having my summers BBQs and swimming) but still have a hard time deciding because I don't like the dryness and extreme heat of deserts. If it was Death Valley, I would have chosen Eureka but Palm Springs would be manageable if I only spent time outdoors during the early AM hours and after dark in summer.

I am not voting because it's a 50/50 for me- I'd tolerate either but spend my weekends going inland for the sun if I lived in Eureka.

Palm Springs by a long shot. I love the heat and the blazing, unforgiving sunshine.

I thought about it and I guess I'd pick Eureka over the extreme heat of Palm Springs. I could swim in a heated outdoor pool that was heated to 85 F and walk around anytime of the year comfortably.

Both bad options but I'll go for Palm Springs. There are much better climates in California than either of these though.

The whole point is picking between the two worst climates in CA, state people associate with "nice, sunny, mild weather."

Eureka weather as here described reminds me of Brittany and Normandy - yikes - Palm Spring of course!
