These pictures are not mine, they were taken at 1200 meters of altitude, 10 km to the soutwest from where I live, last evening.
Here at 1000 meters I saw some sleet for a couple of minutes, nothing more.
What on undergod?
This is just so confusing. I looked at the upper air profile yesterday and the freezing level was like 1600m. Why are you getting snow?
I really don't understand what is going on in Portgual because the air is colder here.
Actually no it isn't. The mild air is being pumped over her from scandi.

I live in the coldest 5% area of Portugal at 1000 meters, you have to stop being so surprised
While I was having drizzle at 4ºC in the middle of the afternoon, there were some people sunbathing in Algarve at 20ºC.
Max temperatures yesterday (I live in those 6.8, if I didn't I probably wouldn't be here in the first place, nor would I be interested in meteorology ):

Well there is a mountain here at around 900m but there is no weather station there so I never have an idea of how cold it is. I always thought that 1000m would not make much of a difference in temps thats why i'm surprised.
Maybe there is snow up on that 900m mountain. I won't find out anyway LOL.
Actually there probably is because a few days ago freezing level was 800m.
24c and sunny at 12:35. Today's high will be anywhere from 27-29c, and rain with a thunderstorm is forecasted in the late afternoon.

800m difference here between Zagreb city centre and Sljeme (Medvednica summit) can mean a lot, especially in summer. For example, it could be 35c in Zagreb, but Sljeme should be no warmer than 26c.
In winter, however, it can be the opposite. Sljeme could be bathing in sunlight with 10c, while Zagreb is shrouded in fog and clouds with temperature slightly above freezing.
This winter, when we were having all those snowstorms, Zagreb got to at least 10c in between each of them so the snow melted just before another storm came in. On Sljeme, barely any snow melted, so by the end of March, it had a snow cover of around 300cm.
Yea but that depends on the lapse rate and the lapse rate is only high when it is warm. When it is cold the lapse rate is only like 5c difference between here and that height.
Like today the air is saturated so the difference will not be much.
