I've experienced it, numerous times. July 2013 being the most recent.

Weather History for New York, NY | Weather Underground

It was midnight and the temperature was still 34C, with a heat index of 37C. And with no A/C, I had difficulty falling asleep.

Ahh OK, I thought you meant it staying above 30C during the night as a whole! Yeah that would be pretty uncomfortable.. that is just too hot and unpleasant.

On our warmest days, it is often still 25C at midnight, but then it seems to cool down quite quickly from 1am-6am to around 18C-20C

NYC has recorded three nights that haven't fallen below 30C, I'm not sure of another location on the U.S. East Coast that has pulled that off, even Miami hasn't. But even if it falls to 28-29C, it's equally unpleasant imo.

I know that feeling. The whole day the whole city and its buildings were boiling from the sun and at night the temperature is still hot for night so you feel really sticky and anxious! :/

I guess the huge UHI effect plays a part there as well.. 30C nights are just too much IMO. High teens and low 20sC are fine
