If you like boring, room temperature weather year round with very little rain, Iquique, Chile beats them both! Check out those records and how little they differ from the norm- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iquique#Climate

Both climates are pert-near perfect. However, the city and culture a big winner for San Diego. You really can't compare the Alpha-City SoCal conurbatation with not even Gamma- - Tenerife (add whatever other cities on other islands you want) cityscape of the Canary Islands.r Other thing is the whole SD/LA area is easily accessable on a great free roadway system. Not hours on ferries or flying between islands in the Canaries. You really have access to the city on the island you live.
