Probably the best place to look for analogous climates would be upland Colombia and Ecuador and see what grows at the altitude that parallels Mistee's temps. I could easily believe this climate existing in the mountains around Bogota.
Mistee. It's chilly but liveable. Dustee? I couldn't go outside except at night or maybe morning in the winter. My 2011 Honda Accord's air conditioning would be begging for mercy in Dustee.
Besides, Mistee would have much better greenery than rainless Dustee.
Mistee would probably struggle to grow trees though. The climate is cooler than a Shetland summer, and trees are unable to grow there. I assume there would be heavy wind as well, which certainly wouldn't help. I guess Shetland and Faroe Islands's grasslands are the templates for how it'd look.
I'd much rather see as 17/14 climate like the coastline between SF and Half Moon Bay.
(Ok, I just now read the gory details. The desert part is nothing like I thought it was going to be. Much, much too extreme on the hot end. Forget that, lol. It sounds terrible.)
Mistee the maritime climate is highly desirable for many, not an evil at all, at least for some of us. I can't handle hot weather, and the desert is barren to me with plants, and creatures that want to hurt you. But it's interesting to read about just the same, and toy with the idea of living there. And I like many of their mature plantings, so that is interesting. I'm kind of a plant freak. If I had the money I wouldn't mind going to the desert in the winter for the coldest part. I don't see that happening anytime soon though. Back to day dreaming, lol. Thanks for this thread .
Dustee because it fulfills one of my wishes. Mistee fulfills none of my wishes and is way too depressing.
Interesting how different people are. To me the desert is overwhelmingly depressing. I need greenery instead of gray, and brown all year. I like to garden, but hate to water through dry summers, and misty would take care of that. As for any wind you can plant windbreaks like they do on the plains where trees don't like to grow. They work super well, and you have your own little forest that attracts birds, etc. Oh well, glad there is something for everyone since we won't all fit into the same place .
So when are we leaving for Mistee? I can be ready in very short order.
