Yesterday's high and low temperatures in Europe... well under average in parts of southern Spain, like Sevilla or Córdoba (highs, not lows) with temps more than 6ºC under the normal average.
Hot in the majority of Cyprus and parts of the southern Turkish coast... Extremely hot in parts of the Middle East with some highs surpassing 38ºC, even one with 44ºC. Wow!
Some huge differences in parts of England between the highs and the lows. Wow look at those -3ºC near London while the high was 18ºC?! Amazing.
Never the less, the temperature observations still occured and shouldn't be downplayed to make London seem warmer.
But that might be an extreme in the area around London and not generally representative. We have a few frost hollows here too. Rochelle, Barington, and Aurora see the lowest minimums. On the flip side, MDW, Northerly Island and Gary see the highest.

But Heathrow is representative of the London area. Benson is a frost hollow in the middle of the Oxfordshire countryside, not even in the bowl formed by the Chilterns and North Downs, and about 50 miles from London.
If I wanted to make London appear warmer, then I wouldn't be using Heathrow stats; I'd be using LWC, St James's Park, or Greenwich.
London's a huge place, you can often see big differences between individual stations there. These maps take random samples, and aren't necessarily representative.

Temperature-wise, Heathrow is representative of the outer boroughs and Greenwich is representative of the inner boroughs. LWC/SJP are representative of the heart of the city.

I'm just making a point that the -3 isn't necessarily representative, where was it recorded? It's an astounding figure at this stage of the year.
