My favorite climate in China and perhaps in all Asia. Absolutely fantastic. Temps are perfect and rainfall distribution is adequate.
Too bad there is no accurate date for sunshine but apparently in the lower 2000's.
This is the only climate in the world that I've found which replicates exactly the temperature pattern of my dream climate: lowest highs in December in the lower 20's°C, lowest lows in January in the lower teens, highest highs in April approaching 35°C with still sub-20°C nights, and highest overall average temperature in summer with >20°C highs, with a relative minimum of highs in July of 30°C.
A- to A+ depending on sunshine. A+ if >2400, A- if <1900.
Southernmost Yunnan along the Mekong looks far warmer and "tropical" than anywhere in southeastern China outside of southern Hainan. The coconuts actually look better than anywhere in northern Vietnam. Goes to show how important daily high temperatures are even though the discussion is often hyper-focused on lows.

Is it just southern Hainan? Haikou on the island's north apparently does well enough with coconuts in China to even have a nickname ('The Coconut City') tied to the activity.
As for Yunnan, I've read about the tropical garden in Jinghong's prefecture — Xishuangbanna. The climate data, and overall landscape that you mention, is indeed quite impressive considering the elevation of almost ~2000 ft.

Haikou looks like crap just like Beihai and Haiphong. It might be the "coconut city" relative to most of China lol. The winters are too cool and cloudy so the coconuts yellow and throw stunted leaves until the real summer heat arrives and repeat. Sanya is mostly saved by the mountains to the north.
Jinghong looks similar to neighboring northern Thailand in both flora and people/culture.
