I can answer this two ways.

50 cm of lying snow on the ground: every winter, usually for extended periods of time.

50 cm in one single snowfall: believe it or not, happens quite rarely. The last time it happeend was around 2007 and we can go many years without such mammoth snowfalls. We generally get our snow in gradual 5, 10 and 20 cm increments.

Probably once a decade. It depends..

(if you mean lying snow).

Last time we had it was last March and then December 2010 so it hasn't been rare recently.

Extremely rare. Might have happened in 1963, but I doubt it - maybe 1947 was the last time? Closest we came in recent years was 40cm in 1995.

You mean you didn't have tons of snow last March and in 2010?

Well we did. You see if he means in a storm we wouldn't get that maybe once a century but lying on the ground yes.
