In Singapore it can get a little misty, otherwise the closest it gets to a thick fog is haze during the burnoff season in Indonesia.

I looked up some stats for some eastern US locations. It looks like fog is more common in summer than winter. How? Can any of you that live there attest to this?

Brasilia is tropical but not equatorial! Fog is common there.
