Now in the top five snowiest February's, and 12" away from the top, 1958. Note the record is dwarfed by December and January, which have seen as much as 82.7" in 2001 and 68.3" in 1977, respectively. Anyone who knows Lake Erie should know why.

Big storm on southerly winds in D.C. area yesterday; National changed over to rain between 16:00 and 19:00 which may explain the 2.6" at BOTH reports as well as thru midnight; NWS requires those who measure snow to wait six hours between readings.

National: 2.6", season 11.2" (still below normal by 1.8")
Dulles: 8.9", season 24.3" (normal for entire season is 22"). Parts of Loudoun, Montgomery, and Frederick counties (higher elevation) exceeded 10". This daily snow also reset the record:

RECORD EVENT REPORT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BALTIMORE MD/WASHINGTON DC
1247 AM EST SUN FEB 22 2015

...RECORD DAILY MAXIMUM SNOWFALL SET AT WASHINGTON DULLES DC...

A RECORD SNOWFALL OF 8.9 INCH(ES) WAS SET AT WASHINGTON DULLES DC
YESTERDAY. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 2.7 SET IN 1993.
NWS Sterling didn't mention in the RER that the rain-equivalent of 0.93" was also a record, beating 0.85" from 1993.

BWI: 6.3", season 19.5"; only need 0.6" more to match the seasonal normal.

I pieced together the map of snow depth reports. Incredible long lasting snowpacks out there.

Type in City, State top right.

I would estimate we have about 40-50 cm of snow on the ground here. Or 15-20 inches. This is a good, normal snowy winter for us.

Snowbanks on the edges of driveways are 1 to 1.5 m high, or 4-5 feet right now.

Still a far cry from those pictures where you can't see the house.
