Yes, but Houston doesn't go below 0C every winter and every time there's a cold front passing through, so it's a moot point. People across the Atlantic have this impression that the Gulf region regularly sees temperatures at or below freezing multiples times a month. The record low where I was born is 16°C. Does that mean San Juan, Puerto Rico regularly sees "extreme cold" every single winter? No, it doesn't, and you'd be hard pressed to find ANYBODY that's been to the Caribbean and think San Juan's record low is a sign that it always goes below 20°C in the winter. That is simply not true, at all.

He's just saying Seville is less likely to see these extremely cold temperatures, compared to Houston. You could say the same thing about Seville being less likely to see 25C+ temperatures in January.

I really enjoyed my visit to Seville. Great place to visit!

I'd take Seville, though I don't like the real dry conditions and the summer heat. Winter looks nice though.

Have you ever been to Seville by chance?

I think they feel quite different though. I was in Seville in the month of September and though pretty hot and sunny, in the shade was comfortable.

I've been in deep south Georgia and Jacksonville in July, and it felt like I was in a sauna the whole time and was sweatsoaked. I think Houston would feel the same as Jacksonville. Seville is a lot more comfortable in summer if you ask me.

I guess it depends whether your heritage is Greek or Turkish

Yeah of course, I wouldn't expect it to get that low all the time, but for the large standard deviation it probably does go lower than Seville each year. I would actually choose Houston in winter though, as I would quite like a winter with wild swings and the chance of heat.

What's the highest average high temperature Houston has seen for July and August separately? Seville's is 38.5C and 38.0C respectively.

On average over the last 30 years Houston goes below 32F 11 times over the three winter months at the airport north of town. When you look at Hobby airport on the south side of town, to drops down to only 4 days over the winter. When you move to the coast at Galveston it drops to 3 days over the winter.

For Seville (San Pablo) these are some months I found:

July 2010: 37.7C/22.8C
July 2006: 37.8C/22.1C

A few really horrible days during these months.. 11th July 2006 had a max of 43.6C and a minimum of 27.8C

End of July - start of August 2003 had 16 days in a row of highs above 40C and lows at 24C or above including two consecutive days that were 42C/27C and 44C/25C

I sure feel sorry for those without a/c in Seville!
