Yea, I like the mild climate of much of the state and it some great landscapes. Weather is usually rather boring there, but it's interesting how different it is from here. Though the marine layer we've gotten this May is a bit California-like. Never heard of the Lift Index, found a map of nationwide lift index for the last three days here:

Unisys Weather - Lifted Index - -72 hr

I'd expect the entire west coast west of the Sierra / Cascades to have a high positive number in the warmer months. Looks like part of Oregon is almost to zero, there's a chance of thunderstorms in SW Oregon and the dewpoint is in the mid 50s. Unusual situation for them, I think. Still dry heat...

National Weather Service

Yesterday was 90°F with a dew point of 51°F, the day before 88°F with a dew point of 46°F. Can we agree that's dry heat? A photo I took near Medford:

Spoiler

Typical summer day in western Oregon. High around 80°F, dew points in the 40s to low 50s. Few clouds as the air is too stable for much convection.

Spoiler

I took those on this day. Note the dew point often drops during the hottest time of day (see some other sunny July days) instead of rises, assume as the marine influence dies down.

Yeah... that's nice dry heat.(not 50s). Wish we had that. Even yesterday there would be dry heat for us. I like the stable environment but too cloudy there for me I think. Don't like too much rain.

Look at the winds that day, (NW) and not sure I would call that a "drop" though hovering 43-48 all day.

Check out 10 days later July 11, 2011. Check out the winds then. Dew points started in the 40s in the morning and "rose" as it got warmer. I don't know about other areas of the U.S but our area in general we don't get low dew points with heat. (yes there are exceptions for 1-2 hours or 1-2 days but overall No)

BTW... Have you seen the DPs off to our west today? Cooler air mass is coming, let me know if your dew points rise. In fact, that's a cool question...

Can dew points rise with a cool air mass MORE then they drop with a warm air mass. Around here the answer is YES.

86 F/30 C with a dewpoint of 64 F/18 C (48% humidity). Just had a quick downpour...now it'll feel even more humid. At least we're getting just enough rain to keep things nice and green despite the dry conditions.

Very humid earlier today (still is, but much cooler (22C) after the rain).
Hard to believe tomorrow will be much cooler, forecast high only 9C / 48F ...we'll see

Wow, a 48F max. Last time I had that was over a month ago. No day in May had max in the 40s.

So which side of the front do you prefer? Chilly Side with northerly winds or Hot side with Southerly winds?

Feels like 30s north of Chicago right now in the late afternoon!

You mean this May or any May? We've had days below 50 F/10 C here. May 12, 2010 was rainy with a high of only 46 F/8 C here. May Weather for Sussex, NJ | Weather Underground

May 10, 1966 and May 8, 1967 only had a high of 42 F/6 C here.
