How long do you have to wait until the risk of cool weather (maxima below 10C/50F) has passed?
Even though it's nothing that unusual to get above 10C here on New Year's Day (had 11.7C on that date this year, albeit at 11 pm and together with rain and gales) or any other date in winter for that matter, we've probably got a longer wait than almost anybody on here until every day is guaranteed to get into double figures.
The average high passes 10C at some point in early April and springs nowadays tend to be above average, but these are the dates of the last sub-10C high in the past ten years - it's actually quite a bit later than I thought it would be:

The latest sub-10C on record was 9.3C on 26 June 1997, the earliest last sub-10C most probably the one on 13 April 2011, which was also our warmest April and warmest spring on record.
* 2012 was a very odd year - we had our earliest 20C ever, the only one we've ever had in March, and then a high of 7.5C in June, which was among the coldest summer days we've ever seen!
June 11, 1903 Chicago officially had a maximum temp of 48F/9C, which is the latest sub- 50F/10C on record.
On the flip side, some early season warm weather benchmarks
Quote:
March 3, 1974, when the city's official thermometer at Midway Airport peaked at 80 degrees, the city's earliest 80 on record. Similar weather conditions were in place April 10-11, 1930, when Chicago recorded its earliest 90s on record when the mercury topped out at 90 on both days. April days in the 90s are extremely rare in Chicago having occurred on only four dates since 1871. Chicago climatologist Frank Wachowski said that in addition to the back-to-back 90s in 1930, the city's only other occurrences were a pair of 91-degree highs recorded April 30, 1942, and April 22, 1980.
3rd June in 2012 here too. AFAIK, 5 June 2009 was the last one at least in recent (1981 ->) records.
