From what the NWS shows, it's the coldest recorded temperature for that day at that location. Ever. Record cold.

So yes, it's impressive.

But then the next days record is also -6, from 1931

Great visibility lately with the low dew points. Mountain in the eastern Pyrenees viewed from a spot north of Marseille, 175 miles away:

No snow month to date this year (Did I need to even mention that? lol)

lol I don't think you needed to mention that it hasn't snowed yet. if it had that would have been big news here and would have made national headlines like the snow in Columbia sc last year did, also it would have been all what people talked about all day here even if it had been a dusting. our average high is now below 60 and we are 9 degrees away from our lowest average high of 50. its nice to see the weather and how it changes. just 2 months ago weather was still very much summer like, almost impossible to fathom days below 50 and today was our second day below 50 even though technically our high was 51 in the morning and probably higher during midnight, we spent most of the day at 48. another month from now we might be seeing snow even. its crazy how a place goes from summer to winter in 3 months. I didn't realize the record high for yesterday was only 77, we were only 3 degrees away from that.
