The weather was forecast to be nasty yesterday, but it unexpectedly cleared, so went for a walk up to the transmission tower at 1350m/4200ft. Snow level was at about 600m/1800ft, and was about 2 inches, with about 5 inches at the top. Temperature was -2C at the top, and bad weather starting coming in just as we left. Temperature where we parked down lower was -5C at around 9.30 am.
Second photo shows the northern end of the Southern Alps- about 90 km away. The fourth photo shows Motueka (I live on the first small ridge from the sea) Despite snow being so close frequently, snow only falls on the coastal plain about once every 35 years or so.
Temperature this morning (6.44 am) is -3C/26F with 99% RH, Forecast high of 12C/54F. Brief heavy shower last night, but clear now.
