Diurnal range is rather low for a continental climate, and spring warm up is slow. September is barely cooler than June. Temperatures are probably rather stable, but the annual range is high for an oceanic climate. Is it really more continental than northern Italy?
Diurnal range is rather low for a continental climate but is not too unusual.
Spring warm up is slow, again not too unusual.
Montauk climate looks like a milder version of some "Great Lakes" climates.
Here is a comparison with Toronto (Annex) average highs and lows in Celsius

Very similar for warm half of the year. Diurnal range very similar too.
Toronto is humid continental and so is IMO Montauk.
Didn't expect them to be so close, however annual range of Montauk is smaller so I'd say it's less continental. I guess both should be described as modified humid continental, as the weather patterns still have a similar character. Standard deviation in January is around 8°F, 3-5°F lower than most of the eastern US (some parts of inland New England is high as 14°F for mins in January). The precipitation pattern of Montauk has so no seasonal pattern; fronts and shortwaves can happen anytime of the year. Somewhat less likely in summer, but convection makes up for it. Maybe. The amount of convective storms it gets must be rather low
It's too cold to be oceanic or subtropical in my eyes, so continental is the only sensible answer. It has colder springs than we do!
Nearby ocean is probably colder surrounding Montauk than southern England. Summer's of course warmer. The Atlantic is a giant refrigerator in the spring.
Parents of a high school friend of mine have a second home in Montauk. Stayed over there once... in January. Popular spot for Long Islanders to visit, mini-road trip. Probably more popular than the more famous Hamptons. Local bumper sticker: "Montauk... The End". Iconic lighthouse, too:
Thankfully Humid Continental. Oceanic would suck for summer vacations.
