America doesn't do average. This would be terrible for snow.

That day on January 19, 1994 was when KY set it's all-time record low for the state. At -37 F (-38 C) at Cynthiana.

Yeah so I don't personally think America has cold winters. Yes it might go to -14c once in January but most of the time it can get crazy warm.

At least New Jersey, Pennsylvania etc anyway.

Yeah but Nei the point is that the temp is up and down as a yoyo. It can't be good for the snow pack reaching those temperatures.

It certainly does get very cold but not consistently like Norway.

Average here means the actual temps in general.

Yes, but you picked a particularly bad month for snow there. It's not that good for retaining snowpack, but that has little to do with the amount of cold.
