Do you have American citizenship? If so you're technically American. Simple as that whether you feel like it or not.
Citizenship is not the same as thing blood. Besides, I've stated multiple times that 'American' and 'European' are not mutually exclusive. That means it's possible to be both.

Alright, then technically I should be Australian and Croatian. I've experienced heaps of Croatian culture here through my grandparents and because I've been there. Also technically my blood should be Croatian, since my parents were both from there.
Yet I still am content and even feel proud to an extent to call myself Australian. It's where I've spent my whole life, and it's where I plan to spend the rest of it.
I'm certainly not saying every French speaker in Quebec is French. Many are from another background anyway. But a person who's of French descent is French. Cultural differences between Quebec and France don't change this. Mother tongue doesn't even change it in my book. But speaking French natively is certainly another factor to consider.
I used to think this but over time I've come to the conclusion that culture and identity are generally acquired as opposed to inherited and best viewed in terms of what you are today as opposed to what your ancestors were.

Obviously, I am talking about blood. Language, culture, etc., are easily changeable. But blood--in this case, European blood--is the product of tens of thousands of years of evolution.
American adverts/commercials for any sort of medication etc.. do make me laugh, the way they say how wonderful this drug is, then at high speed say:
