How do you think The Weather Channel would fare if they created a 2nd channel that they could move all of their special programming (reality, dramatizations, science shows) to, while reverting back to 24/7 weather coverage on the main network? I'm not talking about Weatherscan, either....I'm talking about 'round the clock live programming featuring the OCM's. I know the shows are popular, and I watch the tornado themed ones every blue moon, but I long for the nonstop real time weather coverage from the days of old. It seems every time I need my real time weather fix one of those shows are clogging up the schedule.....often for hours at a time. We do have Weather Nation as an alternative on Directv, but their coverage and graphics leave much to be desired in comparison.
Whattaya think? How many of these other stations have multiple channels? ESPN, History, Nick, all the news networks........and I have little doubt that both Weather Channels would maintain great ratings - one for the die hard old schoolers, the other for the show lovers. With TWC creating some new show practically every other week, it would seem this idea's time has come, yes?
Well, It would make me happy. However they won't do it because of the exorbitant cost of owning/running two stations as well as the fact that they would be unlikely to gain a substantial amount of new viewers, hence greatly decreasing their profit.
I have been watching it lately, as have access to most US TV stations, & must admit it is pretty boring...
Some years back they launched a UK version on cable & it was axed after a few months as nobody watched it, surprising since most Brits do nothing but talk about the weather

I've noticed weather broadcasts from Europe tend be more detailed and informative and not as "dumbed down" as American forecasts. Was a pleasure to watch. The weather forecasts for here are catered towards kindergartners.

I don't know if I agree with this. There's a legion of old school die hards who would race back to a 24/7 live coverage setup. Marketed properly, I think it would work....all they have to do is slap a fancy new moniker and logo over it, something like Weather Channel Nonstop, or Weather Channel CFC (classic forecast center).
