The former US ambassador to Finland Bruce Oreck, who decided to stay in Finland, has been quite vocal about our domestic affairs before (rather unusual for an ambassador). Now he asks that how in this economical situation can we be so lazy, work half-hearted and have so long vacations?
Well, mañana... We don't have siestas, but many coffee breaks. What can you say, it's our lazy culture. Chill out dude, yo.

There's two types of Americans I loathe so much.
The first type is the American that thinks the entire world should confirm to our sense of morality and living. If they're not doing it the American way, they are either wrong or doomed to failure.
The second is the American who moves abroad in order to escape immigrants from the US. This is ironic, because he will become an immigrant himself

If unemployment is high, there's not enough work to go around anyway.

While Oreck has indeed fallen for this "this works in 'Murica, why don't you implement this" kind of thinking once in a while, on the other hand I sometimes agree with him and I think it's refreshing that an outsider with authority stir this stale pot of consensus once in a while.
Unknown in the US and being rewarded the ambassador position by Obama supporting him financially in the 2008 pres election, he has been very vocal in public, something that is extremely unusual in diplomatic circles. Who could even name the British or French ambassador to Finland, but those who follow politics might well know who Bruce Oreck is.
In this case, Oreck is right. The GDP per working hour in Finland is below all other Nordics. We are not much better than Spain. Anyway, he is unemployed now, divorced from his wife and found a Finnish GF 20 years younger than him and decided to stay.
