I'm surprised drought isn't more prevalent in Texas on the U.S. Drought Monitor. Some parts of Texas have hardly had any rain over the past 30 days. Maybe it's because there were large amounts of rain during spring & beginning of summer.
Because the proximity to the Gulf of Mexico ensures high humidity, even in the absence of rain, many parts of Texas can still hold steady temps for a very long time in conditions that can ordinarily cause day after day of 100F temps. This is especially true for coastal South Texas; Brownsville, for instance, is an almost semi-arid climate, but temps are actually not that hot at all; triple digit heat is no more frequent than in many places further east in the coastal South, and, in fact, has even less frequency than quite a bit of places in that region. Furthermore, the Gulf humidity tempers evaporation, allowing plants/landscape to stay lush and green, even as the land goes without rain for weeks.
This is a similar situation seen in places like Dakar; rainfall shortage causes dry conditions, but the proximity to the ocean allows high humidity, and mild temperatures. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dakar#...hy_and_climate
The current heatwave in the Upper Persian Gulf Region is special.

High Temperatures: 21.07.2016
High Dewpoints (Air from the Persian Gulf) are keeping Omidieh from reaching Temperatures that high.
