You can put the clocks forward or back - but it doesn’t change the daylight hours. You can have more daylight in the evening or more in the morning, but then there is less in the morning or evening:

Before I go to work, I set my clock back 3 hours. Then I go to work, but then set the clock back to the normal time, so I spend less time at work. My boss understands that this is my personal choice.

Obviously that doesn’t work, you need to spend the same hours. My work simply starts and finishes an hour later and I have lighter evenings.
Thought you liked cold winters, hence why you moved to Erie?
I love cold too but hate the cold windy days when the wind cuts right thru you no matter what you wear.
